Recreation

Recreation strives to be a leader in promoting community health and well-being through fun, higher learning, and activities for everyone. This division identifies and implements activities and programs that will reinforce success oriented, character building attributes in Newark's youth.

As of September 1, 2016 all permits and licenses sold by the Newark Watershed will be available to purchase online or in the West Milford or Newark offices at our Kiosks with a credit card (Master Card and Visa only), and money order or cashier’s check. Cash will no longer be accepted. There will be a fee associated with your credit card payment. Please see the breakdown below:

Merchant fee: 3% + $0.30

Once you have filled out your application/s online and paid your fee with a credit card you will be expected to pick up your permit, license and sticker from the office where you purchased it (you must print out a receipt and present to the agent) at the office in West Milford or at City Hall, 920 Broad Street, room 216. If you are paying with a money order or cashier’s check please bring that with you and pay the park attendant or receptionist on site.

Centers of Hope

The Centers of Hope are nine community-based centers in all five of Newark’s wards that allow access to City services, wellness and enrichment opportunities where people live and work.The Centers will offer a variety of athletic, arts & culture, educational, environmental, healthy living and recreation programming to engage and empower the community. Staffed by the Division of Recreation, the Department of Health and Community Wellness, and other community partners.
