Newark, NJ – May 20, 2021 – Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced today that the City of Newark is collaborating with Uber and the United Way to provide 10,000 free rides to local vaccination sites for residents living in the City of Newark. The rideshare company is working cooperatively with the United Way of Greater Newark, a non-profit that works to improve the lives of individuals, children and families within its footprint, to administer the rides and participants will be given free transit to and from vaccine sites for both required doses.

Newark residents can access the rides by inputting the promo code 10MVUWNewark in their Uber app, or by contacting the United Way of Greater Newark by phone at 973-624-8300 or by email at info@uwnewark.org.

“We need to leverage every tool at our disposal to get more Newark residents vaccinated to protect our community against COVID-19, so I’m thankful to Uber for stepping up and helping us make that happen,” said Mayor Baraka. “Since many of our residents don’t drive, this program will complement other efforts we are taking to bring vaccines to the people and bring people to the vaccines.”

The partnership will build on similar initiatives Uber has started, including a highly successful program in Jersey City and a recently announced initiative in Camden.
