The Municipal Council of the City of Newark (“City”) located at Newark City Hall, 920 Broad Street, Newark, New Jersey will hold a scoping hearing that is open to the public to obtain comments for a major diversion of parkland owned by the City. The scoping hearing will be held on September 20, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Municipal Council Chambers, 920 Broad Street, 2nd Floor, Newark, New Jersey. All interested parties are invited to attend and participate at the scoping hearing. Written comments may be submitted to the addresses listed below. All written comments must be received by close of business on the last day of the two week period following the hearing.
In accordance with N.J.A.C. 7:36-26.8 et seq., the general description of the major diversions to be considered at the scoping hearing are: a 671 sq. ft. portion of the Green Acres encumbered lands designated on the Tax Maps of the City of Newark as Lot 1 in Block 4, on the northbound side of McCarter Highway, between Lombardy Street and Bridge Street, and a 2,120 sq. ft. portion of the Green Acres encumbered lands designated on the Tax Maps of the City of Newark as Lot 60 in Block 1, also known as 932-948 McCarter Highway, which are encumbered by Green Acres. The purpose of the diversion is to remove the Green Acres encumbrances so as to permit the City of Newark to transfer the land to adjacent property owners to facilitate the development of Newark Riverfront Park. Any diversion is subject to approval by the City, the NJDEP Commissioner and the State House Commission.
