Mayor Baraka and National Action Network Newark Tech World to Host Free Thanksgiving Dinner for Residents in Need

 Mayor Ras J. Barakaannounced today that the City of Newark will partner with the Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network’s Newark Tech World to host an inaugural free Thanksgiving Dinner for city residents in need, on Thursday, November 24 (Thanksgiving Day), at 10 a.m., at 400 Hawthorne Avenue in the city’s South Ward. The event is also sponsored by South Ward Council Member John Sharpe James.

Residents will enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner at the event.

“We are pleased to partner with Reverend Al Sharpton and the National Action which empowers people with the tools they need to succeed and live fulfilled lives. Providing this Thanksgiving dinner to residents in need gives us a chance to share with them the bounty and joy of this festive holiday season as a community and a family,” Mayor Baraka said.

NAN Newark Tech World is a collaboration of various local stakeholders initiating a bold multi-sector call to action to provide skills to community members and students of color in Newark. This extends the current efforts of Mayor Baraka’s Office to empower Newark residents and meet the talent needs of local businesses. NAN Newark Tech World is going to be a transformational institution in Newark that is free for students and will teach courses in web design, graphic design, digital literacy, networking, and more. Panasonic Corporation of North America will be the anchor funder of Tech World which will operate in conjunction with local universities and nonprofits. NAN-Newark Tech World will serve as a high-tech community center for the City of Newark.
