 40 ACRES AND A MULE FUND

 Today we announced the launching of the 40 Acres and a Mule Fund “NWK FAM Fund.” This is a $100 million fund designed to combat and reduce the social and economic inequalities resulting from systemic racism. It will begin to level the playing field and help close the racial wealth gap.

• HERE ARE OUR NUMBERS TODAY

o Newark:

 63 more positive cases than Friday, and a total of 1,058 since June 30th.

 No new deaths; a total of 37 since June 30th.

o NJ:

 A total of 203,548 positive cases, which is 1,448 more than Friday, September 25.

 A total of  14,315 deaths, which is 6 more than Friday, September 25.

o IN CASE YOU MISSED IT ON FRIDAY, THE TEST POSITIVITY RATES (AS OF SEPT 21):

 Newark 2.73% as of Sept 21 (vs Sept 14 was 1.52%)

 NJ 2.22% as of Sept 21 (vs Sept 14 was 2.19%)

• FOOD RELIEF PROGRAM

 Our food relief program continues and to date we’ve provided 2.4 million meals, along with Newark Public Schools.

 If you or someone that you know is in need of food, please leave your information in the comments or send us a message. The next delivery is this Wednesday.

• REMINDER: COVID-19 SCHOOL-AGE TUITION ASSISTANCE FOR WORKING FAMILIES

 Don’t forget to apply for New Jersey’s COVID-19 Child Care Tuition Assistance Program. Eligible families in need of childcare for your school age children can apply online at WWW.CHILDCARENJ.GOV/COVID19.

 The program will provide tuition assistance to New Jersey families with incomes up to $75,000 in need of either full or part-time childcare depending on the school’s remote learning schedule. The department will consider applications until funding is exhausted.

 The Census deadline has been extended to October 31st.

 We are 49.8% counted (self response rate), so let’s keep working hard to make sure every Newarker is counted!

 You can get counted in person at a pop-up site or if someone comes to your home.

 You can go to the Newark Public Library main branch on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, between 11:30AM and 2:30PM.
