Key Points from September 14, 2020 Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

 Thanks to the NJ Secretary of State Tahesha Way, Essex County Executive Joe DiVincenzo, Essex County Board of Elections Clerk Linda Von Nessi, Essex County Clerk Chris Durkin, New Jersey Devils President Jake Reynolds, NBA Lakers J.R. Smith, and the National Basketball Players Association Executive Director Michele Roberts for working with us in trying to get the Prudential Center as a super polling site for the 2020 Presidential Election.

 Final vote by the Essex County Board of Elections to approve the selection of the site is still pending.

 Essex County residents would be able to register to vote, apply for mail-in ballots, and cast ballots in advance, and Newark residents would be able to vote on-site on Election Day.

 Prudential Center is also planning to host a voter registration and Census event on Tuesday, September 22, National Voter Registration Day.

 You will receive your mail-in ballots between now and October 5th. October 13th is the last day to register.

 If you are on parole or on probation in New Jersey you can register to vote without paying any fine.

• HERE ARE OUR NUMBERS TODAY

o Newark:

 21 more positive cases than Friday, and a total of 871 since June 30th.

 1 new death since Friday; a total of 34 since June 30th.

o NJ:

 A total of 196,968 positive cases, which is 1,080 more than Friday, September 11.

 A total 14,245 deaths, which is 11 more than Friday, September 11.

o In Case You Missed It on Friday, the Test Positivity Rates (As of September 7th):

 Newark 1.82% (previous week/August 29th was 1.44%)

 NJ 2.2% (previous week/August 29th was 2.14%)

• LARGE GATHERINGS HOTLINE

 Please continue to report large gatherings, large groups not practicing social distancing, and crowds not wearing masks.

 Hotline is 973-969-1122 and is operated between the hours of 4PM-12AM.

• FOOD RELIEF PROGRAM

 Our food relief program is still in progress.

 The next food delivery will be this Wednesday.

• VIRTUAL LEARNING PODS

 Mayor Baraka will share information about the virtual learning centers where children of essential workers can go. Info to come soon.

 Right now the last day to the Census is September 30th.
