Key Points from April 15, 2020 Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

• Before we get into COVID-19 updates, TODAY IS NEWARK COUNTS CENSUS DAY. How many people have completed their Census form? If you haven’t, please go to www.2020census.gov as soon as this ends.

• As of today, here are our numbers:


o Newark:

3,247 positive cases (yesterday: 3,079)

192 deaths (yesterday: 181)


o Essex County:

8,579 positive cases

590 deaths


o New Jersey:

71,030 positive cases

3,156 deaths

o More than 51,000 people have recovered out of 619,000 cases in the United States

When you can get out of quarantine

1. If you had close contact (at least 10 minutes) with a COVID-19 positive person and you were not tested, then quarantine (stay at home) for 14 days.

If no symptoms after that, you're good, can end quarantining.

2. If you had symptoms and were tested positive and haven’t had follow-up test (which is most common now), you must quarantine until:

a. At least 7 days from beginning of symptoms

b. No more symptoms (ie. cough) PLUS

c. No temp > 100.4 without using Tylenol or Motrin for 3 additional days, then you can end quarantining.

3. If you had a positive test and never had symptoms, you must quarantine for 7 days from the time of your positive test, then you can stop quarantining.

• IRS released a tool to track stimulus payments. It’s easy you just go to website and follow the prompts.

Support for Small Businesses


• Invest Newark, Audible, and Newark Venture Partners are providing free technical assistance to Newark small businesses applying for local, state, and federal assistance programs


• Newark businesses can schedule virtual technical assistance email: capitalconsulting@investnewark.org


• Business will receive an email reply with calendar invitations for 20-minute sessions with technical assistance providers

o Between 9-10AM or 2-4:30PM Monday through Friday


• Appointments are available first come, first serve basis
