City of Newark will No longer accept Credit or Debit payments for Property Taxes, Water Bills, and Other Municipal Charges

Notice of Credit/Debit Card Payment Changes

Due to increasing costs, changing compliance regulations for acceptance of Credit Cards, and to bring the City of Newark in line with best practices at other governmental entities, a new policy for the use of credit cards to pay property taxes, water bills and other municipal charges will be implemented.

The City of Newark can no longer absorb the high convenience fees associated with processing of electronic payments for the following Credit/Debit cards: Discover, Master Card, American Express and Visa,at the Cashier's window in the Tax Office located at Room 104 in City Hall.

Effective August 1, 2019, cashiers at the City of Newark Tax Office will only accept Cash, Checks and Money Orders to pay property taxes, water bills, and other municipal charges.

For your convenience, you can view and pay your property taxes and water bills online using a Credit/Debit Card or Electronic Check(E-Check) on our websites, or you can call 1-888-877-0450 to pay by phone.

Online Credit/Debit Card convenience fees are 2.25% of your payment amount and the Electronic Check fee is $0.99.
