Mayor Ras J. Baraka and President and CEO of the Newark Community Economic Development Corporation (NCEDC) Bernel Hall announced today that the City of Newark is partnering with NCEDC and PNC Bank to host an eight-week program in their “Language of Capital Series” to teach city business owners the skills they need to succeed. This is the second time the class has been offered this year.

The classes will begin on Tuesday, September 17, and run from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will be held at the T.R.E.C. Offices at 55 Ludlow Street in the city’s South Ward. The sessions will enable business owners to understand how to manage their personal and business finances and credit; learn how to assess their business financial needs; understanding bonding, insurance, organizational types, and record-keeping; what it takes to become and remain profitable; how to conduct a market and competition analysis; and how to capture their story in a business plan.

“Creating an empowered and equitable city includes providing entrepreneurs with the tools they need to thrive. In turn, they will generate jobs for residents and attract shoppers to all of our neighborhoods. This partnership between NCEDC and PNC Bank is evidence of their mutual commitment to moving Newark forward. I urge business owners to attend these classes,” Mayor Baraka said.

“Statistics prove that local entrepreneurs hire local, shop local, and live local. An investment in small and M/WBE business development is an investment in Newark’s continued socioeconomic resurgence.  We’re excited about our partnership with PNC Bank and encourage all business owners to take advantage of this tremendous growth opportunity,” said Mr. Hall.

Participants should bring their own laptops and any business documents they have. Free parking is available at ?????????
