
Mayor Ras J. Baraka reminds residents that City Hall will be closed and most non-emergency Newark municipal services will be suspended on Tuesday, November 4, in observance of Election Day. Police, Fire, and other uniformed emergency services will be unaffected.
Trash and paper recycling will be picked up by the City as scheduled for Zone B on Tuesday, November 4. However, alternate side of the street parking regulations will not be enforced.
The Department of Health and Community Wellness’s inspection services, WIC program, Animal and Vermin Control services and health center will not operate on Tuesday, November 11. In addition, the Bureau of Vital Statistics will be closed. Residents will not be able to pick up birth, marriage and death certificates, but can apply on-line. The Medical Director and Department’s Division of Surveillance and Prevention will be on call for medical and public health emergencies.
Water and tax bill payments will not be received at City Hall on Election Day. The Municipal Court will also be closed, however, a judge will be available to preside over bail hearings for defendants in custody. Residents can make payments on parking and traffic tickets through the website www.njmcdirect.com. To utilize this website, residents will need their summons number, including the prefix, and the City of Newark’s court code, which is 0714.
