Newark, NJ– January 4, 2022 – Mayor Ras J. Baraka and Department of Health and Community Wellness Director Dr. Mark J. Wade have extended the activation of “Code Blue” until Wednesday, January 5. Residents are reminded to continue being cautious during extreme cold weather.
Dr. Wade reminds residents to bundle up: “Several layers of warm clothing to protect against moisture and wind are important. Gloves and socks should be kept as dry as possible. Insulated boots that do not obstruct circulation are essential during cold weather. Warm head covering is particularly important since 30 percent of heat loss is from the head.”
The City is also reminding residents that there are emergency shelters operating during the extreme cold weather and about its partnerships with Social Service agencies. For more information about sheltering services, contact the shelters listed below or the Office of Homeless Services at: (973) 877-9481, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
