MAYOR BARAKA AND COUNCIL MEMBER-AT-LARGE QUINTANA TO HOST 24TH ANNUAL THREE KINGS DAY CELEBRATION ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 5, AT 3:30 P.M., ESSEX COUNTY COLLEGE GYMNASIUM ON WEST MARKET STREET
Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Council Member-at-Large Luis Quintana, Councilmember Anibal Ramos, Council Member-at-Large Carlos Gonzalez, other members of the Newark Municipal Council, and dignitaries will host the 24th Annual Three Kings Day Celebration on Friday, January 5, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Essex County College Gymnasium, located at West Market Street and University Avenue. Toys will be distributed to children and their families. Other activities include face painting, arts & crafts, musical performances, and much more. The event is free and open to the public.
Elected officials, non-profit organizations, and members of the Newark community have raised more than $15,000 to purchase toys to bring seasonal holiday cheer to children and families in Puerto Rico, which was severely impacted earlier this year by the force of Hurricane Maria. The toys will be distributed to the most affected remote areas and orphanages on the island by the Puerto Rico Police.
The Three Kings celebration has become the largest and longest running event of its kind in the state of New Jersey. Last year, more than 2,000 children attended the event and received free toys.
This past October, a coalition of members who vowed to aid victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico raised more than $200,000 for the American Red Cross Puerto Rico Relief Efforts.
Three Kings Day is an important holiday for the Latino community in the United States, Spain, Latin America, and the Caribbean Islands.
