Newark Youth Ambassadors Chew & Chat Launch Event

The City of Newark and the Newark Youth Ambassadors will launch the “Chew and Chat” event today, Friday, February 17, at 5 p.m., in the City Hall Municipal Council Chamber, located at 920 Broad Street. The event, an observance of Black History Month, will be a discussion on what it takes for young African-Americans to become leaders in their communities. They will also raise the African-American flag to honor Black History Month.

The event will highlight five young people who will serve as Community Ward liaisons under the Mayor’s leadership, and Community Youth Awards will be presented to four recipients.

The Newark Youth Ambassadors are a youth-led movement that supports the Occupy the Block movement led by Mayor Baraka and which speaks out against violence and crime that has touched their communities. It works to create a new generation of African-American leaders and is committed to positive community intervention and builds on the Occupy movement launched by Mayor Baraka. B
