Mayor Ras J Baraka Launches Unique Summer Youth Employment Program

Mayor Ras J. Baraka, multiple local and national philanthropic supporters, representatives of the business and university community, and teen program participants will launch the 2017 summer youth employment program today, Monday, July 3, at 11:30 a.m., in the City Hall Press Room. City Hall is located at 920 Broad Street.

The program is an experience that will broaden the horizons of young people and measure their progress. More than 2,700 youth are ready to report to job sites across Newark on July 10 through August 18th.  Newark’s innovative program has attracted national attention. It was chosen by the White House last year as one of only 16 Summer Impact Hubs and chosen as one of only eight cities to participate in the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund’s Summer Jobs Connect initiative. The public/private partnership is unusual in combining education in financial empowerment, exposure to college campuses and the workplace, and school enrichment programs.
