Mayor Ras J. Baraka and Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Raheem DeVaughn will co-host a luncheon for survivors of domestic violence on Thursday, October 19, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Newark City Hall, located at 920 Broad Street.
The event is being held to commemorate “National Wear Purple Day 2017,” which recognizes domestic violence survivors and is a rallying color for survivors to reclaim their power. Survivors from the Shani Baraka Women’s Resource Center, the Safe House, My Sister’s Keeper and God’s Girls Matter will participate.
Mr. DeVaughn will also perform two musical selections dedicated to the attending survivors.
His LoveLife Foundation is a non-profit organization that enables Mr. DeVaughn to embrace several causes closest to his heart, with an emphasis on HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, mental illness, autism, cancer, education, music and the arts.
