Mayor Ras J. Baraka and the Newark Municipal Council will announce the formation of a broad coalition to aid the victims of Hurricanes Irma, Jose, and Maria, discuss upcoming events to aid the relief effort, and denounce President Trump for his weak response to these natural disasters that have impacted the lives of Americans and citizens of Caribbean islands today, Monday, September 25, at a press conference at 2 p.m., in the City Hall Press Room, at 920 Broad Street, in Newark.
With all electrical power out in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, more than 3.5 million Americans are lacking electrical power, and that condition may continue for months.
In addition to Mayor Baraka, the growing coalition includes U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker, United Airlines, Congressman Alberto Sires, Councilmembers, Luis Quintana, Carlos Gonzales, Anibal Ramos, Augusto Amador, Senator Teresa Ruiz, Deputy Mayor of Community Engagement Jacqueline Quiles, Pastor Pablo Pizarro – Lighthouse Assembly of God, Pastor Carmelo Roman, Temple Rock of My Salvation, Rutgers-Newark, Aspira, North Ward Center, Hispanic American Chamber of Commerce of Essex County, Hispanic Law Enforcement Society of Essex County, Hispanic Firefighters Assn. of Newark, and Roberto Clemente Little League.
