Interfaith Prayer Vigil for Parkland School Shooting Victims

Mayor Ras J. Baraka, North Ward Council Member Anibal Ramos, Jr., and North Ward Clergy Interfaith Alliance President Rev. Pablo Pizarro, Jr., will be joined by Newark Municipal Council Members, the alliance, and members of the Newark legislative delegation for an Interfaith Prayer Vigil to honor the victims of the mass shooting last week at a Florida high school that left 17 dead, on Thursday, February 22, at 5 p.m., at Rafael Hernandez School of the Performing Arts, located at 345 Broadway, in the city’s North Ward.

The vigil is being held in the wake of a mass shooting incident at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., on Wednesday, February 14th, which left 17 dead and 16 wounded in a six-minute flurry of bullets. The suspect in the incident is being held on charges of premeditated murder. The mass shooting has sparked outrage across the nation over the recent spate of such incidents in schools and other public venues, along with calls for increased legislative action to address the violence.

Newark Public Schools students will read the names of the shooting victims along with a candlelight ceremony. The vigil will also pray for Newark victims of gun violence.
