Please take notice that amid ongoing National and State public health emergency concerns and in light of recent Executive Orders issued by Governor Phil Murphy and CDC guidelines about the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, Newark Planning & Zoning Office will be closed to the public effective March 17, 2020. The Planning & Zoning Office will be unable to accept and process any new board applications until such time as Planning and Zoning Office reopens. In order to comply with Executive Order 104 and CDC guidelines and avoid the potential presence of more than 10 persons at a public hearing all public hearings including the Central Planning Board regular hearings scheduled on April 6 and 20, Zoning Board of Adjustment regular hearings scheduled on March 26, April 2, 16 and 30, and Landmarks & Historic Preservation Commission regular hearing scheduled on April 1, have been cancelled in compliance with CDC and State directives. All appropriately published notices will be carried and the order of such application preserved, in accordance with applicable law. Notice of the reopening of the Planning and Zoning Office will be on the Newark website and social media channels.
This cancellation period may be extended or shortened based upon changes in the current health and safety emergency and existing Executive Orders. The board secretary or board representative will reach out to applicants by phone and/or email with updates or changes to the foregoing facts. The safety, health and well-being of the residents and applicants is of utmost importance to the Planning & Zoning Office and everyone’s patience and cooperation is appreciated at this time.
The Planning & Zoning Office is committed to being flexible and responsive to our community's needs. Accordingly, the EHD team at City Hall will retain essential staff only. To the extent possible, we will be providing virtual help on a range of services through the City's website, via email, and by phone.
