Gen Green

The Office of Sustainability is launching a new youth-led climate initiative Gen Green. This participatory budgeting program is designed to empower Newark youth aged 13-23. Gen Green will enable young people to shape the future of their wards by surveying and voting on sustainable community improvement projects – think eco-art installations, new plantings, community gardens, and more. This initiative aims to capture the valuable feedback and vision of our local youth for enhancing their communities.

Guided by our passionate Program Assistants, Judea Rush, Emily Assowah, Jovana Anderson—who proudly hail from Newark Public Schools and are currently thriving in college—this initiative is a testament to our commitment to empowering you to take the reins in shaping your community. The Office of Sustainability will set aside $50,000 of our budget for Newark youth to prioritize how we will spend the money, we invite young people to unleash their innovative ideas and visionary projects that can make a real difference!
