Due to the success of the program and expenditure of allocated funds from the Treasury, the City of Newark has announced that it had to move up its deadline for submitting applications from January 7, 2022 to December 10, 2021. As of December 10, 2021 at 6pm EST, the City of Newark Emergency Rental Assistance Program portal is closed and will no longer accept new applications. The portal will remain closed indefinitely to new applications until additional funds are allocated to the City of Newark.
Applicants that have already submitted an application still have access to the portal and should continue to login and check the status of applications at apply.recovernj.org. Such applicants may also still submit additional documentation as requested. Applications will be reviewed on a first come first serve basis. Landlords may continue to register and update their profiles. The City of Newark Emergency Rental Assistance Program Support Line will remain available through January 7, 2022 to review questions you may have for additional information requested on your application. Approved applications are expected to receive payment within three weeks of being noted as PAID. The City of Newark will issue notifications through their website, email, social media and the application portal. In the interim, you can apply to the Essex County ERAP program via its online portal at https://portal.neighborlysoftware.com/ERAP-ESSEXCOUNTYNJ/Participant or receive in-person application assistance at:
